HBCU RECITAL SERIES

Dr. Brian L. Fenderson’s research on Career Readiness for HBCU Voice Majors, presents findings from a mixed-methods study examining the experiences of HBCU voice performance majors from 1990 through 2024. Designed for educators, administrators, students and arts advocates, the “A New Day: HBCU Recital Series,” offers actionable insights into strengthening vocal programs at HBCUs and supporting the next generation of classical singers through equity-focused performance access and investment in the arts.

Arts High School Clinic
Dr. Fenderson visits his alma mater, Arts High School in Newark, NJ, acting as a guest clinician with the choirs, and recruiting senior voice majors for Virginia State University, Petersburg, VA.

January 2026

Jackson State University Clinic
Dr. Fenderson served as a Guest Artist at Jackson State University, in Jackson, MS. While at Jackson State, Dr. Fenderson presented a Lecture Recital on his research, and conducted a Masterclass with Undergraduate and Graduate voice majors.


February 2026
Postponed due to Inclement Weather
Dr. Fenderson will be serving as a Guest Clinician with the choir at The Center for the Visual and Performing Arts at Suitland High School, while also working with voice students on their solo repertoire and recruiting seniors for Virginia State University, Petersburg, VA.

July 2026
National Association of Negro Musicians, Inc. 2026 National Conference, Norfolk, VA
Dr. Fenderson will serve as a Conference Presenter for the National Association of Negro Musicians, Inc. National Conference in Norfolk, VA. His session will focus on his research "Career Readiness for HBCU Voice Majors".
